Paint Layer Challenge

Manual grinding and polishing is difficult to control and therefore includes a high risk of grinding away the subject of the examination. Targets can be invisible on the surface of the sample.

Solution:

A reproducible method for evaluation of paint defects was developed consisting of:

Precision cutting with Accutom-100 to isolate the point of interest in the distance of µm;
Mounting and aligning the sample in a special holder, Target Grip; and
Controlled Material Removal (CMR) with TargetMaster in a five-step method reaching the paint defect in 12.5 minutes.
